EMDR IN NEWMARKET & ACROSS ONTARIO
Healing is within reach. Let’s explore it at your own pace
Transformative EMDR therapy to help women heal, grow, and move forward.
As much as you’d like to “just get over” what happened, you’re realizing it’s not that simple.
You find yourself repeating the same frustrating patterns, no matter how hard you try to change. Certain situations or people might trigger intense emotions, leaving you feeling overwhelmed or out of control. Painful memories linger longer than you ever expected, making it feel like you're caught in a cycle of anxiety, fear, or self-doubt.
These feelings can come from so many different places: a single difficult event, years of negative experiences that have built up, or trauma from earlier in your life, like neglect, abuse, or attachment wounds. They might also be tied to relational pain, such as a breakup, the loss of a loved one, or the heavy burden of generational trauma.
EMDR can help people from all walks of life—including first responders, veterans, survivors of assault, and anyone burdened by the past—to find relief and healing. It supports you in processing and letting go of what’s holding you back, so you can reconnect with yourself, rebuild your sense of identity, and move forward with clarity and purpose.
Maybe your thoughts sound like…
“What’s wrong with me?”
“Nobody even knows what I’m going through”
“Trauma is something that happens to other people, not me”
“I used to be able to handle things. Why can’t I get over this?”
“It wasn’t that bad, it’s not a big deal”
Whatever happened is valid, even if…
You can’t fully remember it.
You’ve never spoken about it, and no one knows.
Others didn’t notice.
Someone told you it didn’t matter.
It hasn’t made you stronger.
Your symptoms look different from what you expected.
You think others have it worse.
Triggers are your mind and body pointing to what needs care.
HOW IT WORKS
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is a research-backed, integrative therapy designed to help your brain and body heal from the lingering effects of traumatic or distressing experiences. It works by helping your brain properly process and store memories that feel “stuck,” helping you find relief from emotional pain, triggers, and unhelpful patterns rooted in the past.
When something overwhelming happens—too fast, too soon, or too much—your nervous system can’t fully process it. Instead of filing the event away neatly, your brain leaves it as an “open file,” filled with fragmented bits of memory, emotions, and sensations. These fragments become triggers that alert your nervous system to anything that even slightly resembles the original event. It’s your body’s way of keeping you safe.
EMDR therapy is an empowering process that helps close that open file. Through bilateral stimulation—like tapping and eye movements—we can gently explore what happened, organizing it with a clear beginning, middle, and end, all without having to relive the event or go over everything in detail. As we embrace the wisdom, strength, and perspective you’ve gained since the event or events took place, we can finally put that file away—safely, securely, and with honour for you and your experience.
Along this path, there may be dark tunnels to travel through, but I want you to know there is always light to guide us forward. I will be with you every step of the way until you can find a sense of peace and closure that feels right for you.
WHAT EMDR IS (AND ISN’T)
Venting about your problems and leaving them behind.
→ It’s actually about actively working through emotions, patterns, and behaviors to create meaningful change.
A place where you’re "fixed" in a few sessions.
→ This is a gradual process of self-discovery and growth that takes time and commitment.
Feeling good and motivated after every session.
→ Therapy often means confronting hard truths and emotions, which are necessary steps toward lasting progress.
Avoiding difficult feelings or never being triggered again.
→ It’s more about learning how to process triggers, sit with discomfort, and navigate emotions in healthier ways.
A one-size-fits-all approach that works for everyone the same way.
→ Every therapy experience is deeply personal and tailored to your unique needs, history, and goals.
A magical transformation that happens in sessions alone.
→ The real work comes from integrating what you learn in therapy into your daily life through effort and practice.
You deserve a life unburdened.
Together, we’ll take the steps to help you get there.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
-
Yes. One of the unique things about EMDR is that you don’t have to share the details of your story if you’re not ready or don’t want to. The focus is on helping your brain process and heal, not on retelling what happened. You can experience relief and progress without having to revisit every painful detail aloud.
-
No, EMDR is not hypnosis. You remain fully awake and in control throughout the process. Think of it as being guided to complete your own puzzle—identifying and placing the missing pieces with support. The process mimics a REM (rapid eye movement) state of sleep, which is when your brain naturally processes memories, helping you explore and heal past experiences in a safe and supportive way.

While EMDR therapy is highly effective for many people, it might not be the best fit for everyone. Some conditions require special consideration or alternative approaches. If you’re someone with a history of dissociative disorders, epilepsy, severe psychiatric conditions like schizophrenia, or have recently experienced trauma, we might need to try a different approach or assess where you’re at currently. If you have additional questions, please schedule a free consultation HERE and we can talk more.
